Real Estate & Benefit Part-time Advancement:
Annual Gala - Tap & Tapas
Partnering with the Executive Director, this internship offers a unique opportunity for a hands-on role in event planning, fundraising, marketing, and project management to gain experience producing large, complex charitable events.
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Raffle procurement and organization. Prepare raffle items for the event. Work with auctioneer
  2. design the program, pledge cards, sponsor/chef/teacher slide, power point, electronic invitations, table signs, auction slides
  3. press outreach & social media
  4. Inventory and supply management: take detailed inventory of supplies and assist in ordering/procuring supplies needed
  5. Event logistics: assist in coordinating various site-related logistics.
  6. Volunteer management: organize event volunteers
  7. use donor database to sell tickets & record donations

Real Estate Venture
A real estate project is a complex endeavor involving a lease, architect, engineer, construction, design, financing, and a move. This is an opportunity to learn project planning and execution.
 
 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. participating in meetings with the real estate committee of the board
  2. contributing to interior design decisions
  3. procuring in-kind donations of tech. and furnishing
  4. preparing communications to families, community, donors, & other stakeholders about the move
  5. documenting process
  6. seeking sponsorship
  
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  1. Excellent administrative, oral and written communications, proofreading skills.
  2. Comfortable interacting with the public, in-person and on-phone.
  3. Able to ask people and businesses for donations with proactive follow-up (donations, participation, etc.)
  4. Maintain the highest attention to detail.
  5. Professional and courteous demeanor at all times with public, donors and co-workers.

Program Manager – Groove With Me
 
Who we are
Groove With Me is a youth development organization using free dance classes and performance opportunities to attract and engage girls during the idle out-of-school-time hours and build achievement skills to fuel bright futures.  Housed in our own dance studio on 123rd & 3rd in East Harlem, we offer 42 classes a week to 360 girls a year.  Groove With Me is a special organization because we know each children.  With 200 girls enrolled in the winter, the programming staff knows each one’s name, their parents, issues going on in the family, how they are doing in class, and their development.  Groove With Me will double in the next year. An additional program staff person is needed to maintain this quality.  It is a special opportunity to get to know new families as they join the organization.
 
What you’d do
  • Monitor and record the progress of girls throughout their experience in the program
  • Collaborate with parents to resolve any concerns that may develop
  • Market the programs to local entities of all sorts
  • Establish and manage relationships with corporations, financial institutions, networking and alumni associations, universities, political, education, and community groups for the advancement of the programs
  • Continually enhance program effectiveness
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with the local public schools and community based organizations; build partnerships with other community based organizations in East Harlem to link services and prevent service duplication
  • Write, edit and send semi-annual e-newsletters
  • Manage organization’s social media presence via Facebook and Twitter
  • Edit, update, and maintain Groove With Me’s website
  • Work with teachers to acknowledge, celebrate, communicate, support their needs

Requirements
  • Able to work until 8pm during the school year
  • On-site in East Harlem
  • Vaccinated
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 2 years work experience preferably in education, nonprofit sector, and/or financial industry
  • Experience in marketing and/or sales preferred
 
Salary & Benefits
$50,000-$60,000/yr.

Hours: 12pm-8pm September – June
10am-6pm July and August

Member Roles & Responsibilities
Qualities: 
  • Young professionals based in the New York City metropolitan area
  • Aged 21-40
  • Hold existing or expressed interest in Groove With Me’s work
  • Confident in ability to advocate on Groove With Me’s behalf
  • Interested in serving as a volunteer for Groove With Me
  • Highly motivated to recruit volunteers for Groove with Me activities and events
  • Open to connecting personal and professional networks with YPC activities
Financial Commitment:
  • Annual fundraising give/get goal of $250

​Time Commitment: (Varies; Approximately 45 hours/year)
  • Attend at least one Groove With Me class within first year of membership (1 hour)
  • Attend quarterly YPC Meetings in August, November, February, and May (8 hours)
  • Actively support (plan, prepare, promote, implement) at least 3 of YPC’s 4 annual events (15-20 hours)
  • ​​Volunteer at a minimum of 2 of Groove With Me’s 5 annual activities (8-16 hours)
    • Summer Show - August
    • POP (Parent Observation & Participation) Week - December
    • MOM Week - February 
    • Tap & Tapas Annual Benefit - April
    • Spring into Summer Recital - June ​
Qualifications:
  • Must have at least 4 years of bookkeeping experience
  • Must have at least 4 years experience in HR
  • Flexible, multi-tasker. Must be willing to do any tasks required of a small non-profit staff
  • Strong communication skills. Please submit writing sample
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Solid interpersonal skills and desire to help others
  • Ability to encourage adherence to and enforce policies for all students, parents, and other stakeholders

  • Provide support to our department staff and participants
  • Work with staff to develop systems to ensure consistent, high-quality project management
  • Compliance, licenses, filings
  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director
