The 2011 Chocolate Fashion Show & Opening Night Preview
The 2011 Chocolate Fashion Show & Opening Night Preview, presented by Lincoln, is one of the most anticipated fashion and culinary events in New York City. Hosted by George Duran, host of TLC's Ultimate Cake Off and Food Network's Ham on the Street, this year's event will take place on Wednesday, November 9th from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenue).
The evening will feature Broadway-inspired couture created by teams of celebrated chocolatiers and designers; hors d'oeuvres, fine wine and spirits; and, a silent auction of exciting prizes benefitting Groove With Me, Inc.
The 2011 Chocolate Fashion Show & Opening Night Preview is sponsored by: Lincoln, Rums of Puerto Rico, Scott J/Aveda, Pol Roger, and Sofitel. Chocolates for Dresses supplied by: Guittard and Valrhona.

Summer On The Hudson: West Harlem Piers Park
On Friday, August 19 at 6:00pm, Groove With Me's 11-18 year-old Dancers will PERFORM & TEACH at West Harlem Piers Park.
Summer on the Hudson is the Parks Department's annual outdoor arts & culture festival that takes place in Riverside Park from 59th street to 153rd. With a mix of music concerts, dance performances, movies under the stars, DJ dance parties, kids shows, special events, wellness activities, and more there is something for everyone! All programs and events are free to the public and no registration is required.

Groove With Me's girls invited the adults in their lives to attend dance classes with them.
This August, 180 Groovy Grown-Ups participated in classes! Moms, Dads, Aunts, Cousins, Grandmas, Grandpas, and other Guardians sweated it out in Bollywood, Hip Hop, Creative Movement, Modern and Jazz.
It seems we've discovered a new way to build self-confidence!

East Harlem Harvest Home 104th Play Street
On Thursday, August 11, Groove With Me's 11-18 year-old Modern and Hip Hop Dancers will perform at East Harlem's Harvest Home Play Street.
Working in partnership with the Transportation Alternatives and Harvest Home Farmer’s Market, NYC SAfH has developed the Harvest Home 104th Street PlayStreet as a means to promote active living by providing free physical activity programming for the children of East Harlem. Community partners will come together every Thursday from July 15 through the end of August to offer children an array of FREE activities, from yoga to rugby to karate, and more.

Teacher Appreciation & Donor Cultivation Event at The Joyce Theater
On Tuesday, June 14th, Groove With Me treated our amazing VOLUNTEER Dance Teachers to opening night of RIOULT at the Joyce theater. Teachers, Staff, Board Members and Donors mingled at a reception before the show. After the show, RIOULT company performers and choreographer Pascal Rioult spoke with our group about his work and creative process. |

9th Annual Spring Into Summer
Every June Groove With Me ends the year with a show in which all 250 dancers participate. This year the Spring Into Summer Recital was at The Choir Academy of Harlem! Groove With Me friends and families overflowed from the auditorium. Everyone was so proud of our girls!
If you would like to donate to Groove With Me so that our girls are able to dance at The World Famous Apollo Theater next June, please contact Abby. The Apollo Theater has over 1500 seats, enabling our participants to invite their whole family, friends, and other loved ones to see them dance. Now that's a confidence-builder! |

Dance Parade & DanceFest
On Saturday May 21, 2011 over 9,000 dancers converged on the streets of New York City showcasing 74 forms of dance in a free outdoor dance parade and festival!
Dance Parade’s mission is to promote dance as an expressive and unifying art form by showcasing all forms of dance, educating the general public about the opportunities to experience dance, and celebrating diversity of dance in NYC by sponsoring a yearly city-wide dance parade and dance festival.
Groove With Me's Teen Leaders VOLUNTEERED at this amazing event! Our TLC guided parade participants through the streets, around the grandstand and toward the park. The teens made sure all the dancers felt love from the crowd. |

An all-star team of NYC’s top chefs will be cooking up a delightful feast. This 7th Annual event will feature a special performance by Jason Samuels Smith!
This year’s chefs include Scott Conant of Scarpetta, Harold Dieterle of Kin Shop, Kerry Heffernan of South Gate, George Mendes of Aldea, Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin, Missy Robbins of A Voce, Jacques Torres of Jacques Torres Chocolate, and many more!

Parent Observation & Participation Week (POP) is a new initiative at Groove With Me. We hope to have Groove With Me's girls invite the adults in their lives to attend dance classes with them.
This December, 280 Groovy Grown-Ups participated in classes! Moms, Dads, Aunts, Cousins, Grandmas, Grandpas, and other Guardians sweated it out in African Dance, Hip Hop, and Jazz. Girls positioned their fathers' feet correctly in Ballet. One teacher wrote of her experience, "Girls really liked teaching their parents steps and giving them corrections, which showed off what they knew."
It seems we've discovered a new way to build self-confidence!

Justin Boccitto Tap Day
Producer/Director/Theater Educator/Choreographer, Justin Boccitto visited Groove With Me and Guest Taught our Intermediate & Advanced Tap Classes. He has overseen and produced for the New York tap company, Generation Tap who has performed in Tap City, Circle in the Square and the United Nations and was featured in Dancer Magazine and Dance Spirit. Justin serves on the guest faculty at Broadway Dance Center, The Juilliard School, Circle in the Square Theatre School and Broadway Artists Alliance.

Ray Hesselink Tap Day
Director/Choreographer, Ray Hesselink visited Groove With Me and Guest Taught our Intermediate & Advanced Tap Classes. Learning from a Broadway instructor was an incredible opportunity for Groove With Me's tappers! Ray trained the children currently performing in Broadway's Billy Elliot: The Musical. He is also on Faculty at Juilliard, Broadway Dance Center, and STEPS on Broadway in NYC.
